The Log

The Season so far....

Every penny that you helped us raise puts disabled people out on the water.

I want to thank those people who have given generously over the past year; we are in lean times and every penny is much appreciated Sailing IS expensive, and so fund raising has to be done.

This year we stepped out of our comfort zone and sponsored an afternoon tea at The Chewton Glen, with a Fashion Show by Elliotts of Lymington.

John Lewis of Southampton kindly supplied skin care advice. The event was a huge success, so something similar is being planned for 2010.

During March the boats were re-assembled and got ready for sailing in April. It was great to see so many new members, both volunteers and sailors taking part in some super sails. Some of them have really tested our volunteers, sailors and rescue crews to their limit! yes, some of our boats-three-get muddied up all at once, and Tom lost his sails....(see the Gallery) and had to be rescued......

What else has happened? Thanks to an individual, and very generous, donation we had a boat naming ceremony. The Big Friendly Giant can be seen sailing out on the Solent. We also have a secure compound for our boats built by our volunteers, many thanks.

On behalf of our Charity I was both honoured and privileged to be invited to the Queens' garden Party at Buckingham Palace on July 8th. It was an occasion to really dress up....I shall never forget it. It hit the national news, both on TV and in the papers.

We had sheets of rain, thunder , lightening and hail. So much for my posh outfit, sailing gear would have been far more suitable! To crown it all we had to paddle knee deep back to the car, and the sat nav wasn't working...mind you we had a scrumptious tea.

Just recently I have welcomed Powercat to Lymington. She was on her inaugural voyage from Falmouth to the Thames, and moored at Lymington for five days courtesy of the Harbour Master.

Our Patron, Geoff Holt came up with the boat from Portland, setting a new speed record of 24.6 knots I only managed 23! Dee Caffari was also there, and it was good to reminisce about my Round the Island trip in 2006, when both she and Geoff came to see me off.

No doubt there will be other challenges before the season is over, until then many thanks to our wonderful team of volunteers...perhaps you would like to join them?
